Job Description:

The Laboratory Coordinator will support all functions of the Taylor Lab including overseeing and running the research laboratory on a day-to-day manner and ensuring safety, compliance with best practices, and availability of supplies and resources needed for smooth operation. The Laboratory Coordinator will also have key administrative supporting responsibilities and will conducting independent research (under direction of the PI) as well as supporting existing projects.

The Laboratory Coordinator will help perform experiments according to established laboratory protocols, and will provide technical assistance, as instructed, toward the development of new procedures. The ideal applicant will be interested in developing independent projects (under the direction of the PI) and supporting other projects in the laboratory.

The goals of the Taylor laboratory are to study the basic function and mechanisms of the LINE-1 transposon, their contributions to human disease, and to leverage this knowledge into novel diagnostics and therapies. The Laboratory Coordinator will support experiments in the areas of protein biochemistry and molecular and cell biology aimed at understanding the basic function of the LINE-1 transposon, its potential contributions to cancer development and aging, and support and develop small molecules and genetic strategies to target and modulate the pathway. The Laboratory Coordinator will work with the PI and laboratory members in experiments involving protein purification, assays, as well as general molecular biology procedures and bacterial and eukaryotic cell culture and may work in development of novel assays and optimization, including imaging-based assays.

This is fixed term position with a current end date of 9/30/2027, which may be extended based upon available funding.

Education and Experience

  • Required: Bachelor’s degree in related field
  • Required: 3-5 years of experience working in laboratories
  • Required: Experience with laboratory safety procedures
  • Required: Experience managing lab personnel.
  • And/or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Ability to collect and analyze data
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with a diverse group of people, with vastly different skills and training
  • Possesses a willingness and ability to support a diverse and inclusive campus community
