New York University seeks a highly experienced and collaborative administrator to serve as NYU’s inaugural Title VI Coordinator and Director, Title VI Programs (“Title VI Coordinator” / “Coordinator’) within the Office of Equal Opportunity (OEO). Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for the Office of Equal Opportunity, the Coordinator will provide support to the leader of the OEO and will have primary responsibility for ensuring the University’s compliance with Title VI, including through application of the university’s nondiscrimination and anti-harassment (“NDAH”) policies. These duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, assisting the leader of the OEO in carrying out those duties mandated by Title VI, which provide protections to the NYU community no matter their race, color or national origin, including their shared ancestry or ethnicity and religious identities. The incumbent’s scope includes oversight of Title VI investigations involving students, faculty, staff, and administrators.

The Title VI Coordinator will have responsibility for the management of Title VI investigations and oversight of Title VI Programs and training(s) for the NYU Community. They will be responsible for overseeing any reporting requirements for the University to applicable authorities and assist with the University’s response and its prevention obligations. The incumbent’s duties may include meeting with complainants and respondents; advising them of their rights and resources in accordance with university policy and law; conducting intakes; conducting prompt, thorough, and impartial investigations; providing detailed, unbiased reports on investigations; and/or oversight of the same; and creating and participating in trainings to educate the University community on policy, laws and regulations, and reporting obligations. One of the Title VI Coordinator’s core responsibilities is to ensure that the University responds adequately and consistently to allegations of discrimination and harassment based on all protected traits. To fulfill this mandate, the Title VI Coordinator will review and implement all applicable OCR regulations and guidance.

The ideal candidate for Title VI Coordinator and Director, Title VI Programs will bring a record of administrative leadership and collaboration, and deep experience in nondiscrimination and anti-harassment law and best practices in community engagement and training, and investigation and resolution of matters involving allegations of discrimination and harassment. Successful candidates will have demonstrated ability to work in a complex and highly decentralized institutional environment with a large and diverse array of stakeholders and partners, and in partnership with a seasoned OEO team of professional staff. They will be highly communicative and accessible to students, faculty, staff, and administration across all NYU departments and global sites, and will possess a collaborative spirit and a willingness to engage thoughtfully in complex and sensitive matters. The Coordinator will have a demonstrated knowledge of, and commitment to, intersectional issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the broadest sense. The Coordinator should exhibit exceptional skills in communication and collaboration, discretion and confidentiality, and sensitivity.
