Job Description:

Summary:

The Financial Coordinator position is responsible for assisting the department in day to day departmental functions in the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior. Responsibilities include the support of the financial aspects of the department’s many grant, gift and operating accounts and serving as a resource and researcher to solve many of the requests, problems and questions regarding spending on accounts, credit card purchases and study participant payments. In addition, this position will assist in executing and developing the department internal processes.

With external research funding reaching $67 million in 2022, Brown’s Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior is positioned to transform the field of mental health, from scientific discovery to patient outcomes. The department is home to hundreds of psychiatrists and psychologists, many of which conduct research ranging from basic to clinical and community-based work. Our research is highly collaborative, with partners spanning the university and the state. Research at Brown Psychiatry and Human Behavior spans the spectrum of psychiatric and psychological specialties. Our department has a longstanding reputation as a national leader in psychosocial research but, in recent years, Brown researchers have doubled down on activity in biological bases of behavior and psychopathology. From discovery to implementation, our faculty and trainees are deploying cutting-edge technologies to shape the future of mental health treatment for all. This position supports our mission to improve the understanding and treatment of mental illness by providing the highest values of excellence in research, education, clinical care, community service, and patient advocacy.

Job Qualifications:

Education and Experience

  • Required: Associates degree
  • Required: 2-3 years of financial and budget experience,
  • And/or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Financial and budget experience in an academic/research setting is a plus
  • Experience using Workday is advantageous

Job Competencies

  • Demonstrated proficiency in various word processing, spreadsheet and e-mail software applications on Microsoft and Google platforms.
  • Proficiency in fundamental accounting skills, including the ability to analyze and reconcile accounts.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Organized and detailed oriented
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills, plus ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Excellent administrative and organizational skills and the ability to prioritize own workload.
  • Possesses a willingness and ability to support a diverse and inclusive campus community
