Senior Associate Dean And Director Of Student Support Services
Brown University

Job Description:

The Senior Associate Dean and Director of Student Support Services is responsible for bringing a relational and strategic approach to the leadership, vision, and coordination of non-clinical case management practices and policies, and overall intervention services for students of concern at Brown University.

The Senior Associate Dean and Director will accomplish this by building and leading a dynamic and engaged team whose practice is effective, data-informed, centers equity and inclusion, and partners actively with students and colleagues in other units. As a leader and educator within the Division of Campus Life, the Senior Associate Dean and Director works closely with colleagues to design and deliver services that are aligned with Brown’s Liberal Learning Goals for its Open Curriculum and responsive to the developmental needs of its highly autonomous and self-directed students.

The Senior Associate Dean and Director leads and supervises the team of Student Support Deans who provide intervention and case management services to students whose disruption to academic progress is caused by a broad range of difficulties that may, at any point, rise to higher levels of concern if not moderated quickly and sufficiently, for example: unique financial concerns, severe/disruptive interpersonal difficulties, markedly difficult adjustments and transitions, or difficulty navigating complex healthcare systems. The Director sets short and long-term goals for the implementation and evaluation of interdepartmental processes, protocols, and initiatives that promote student development, success, and wellbeing; oversees medical leaves and return clearance processes; coordinates outreach about and engagement with the department; supports student crisis management.

In addition, the Senior Associate Dean and Director engages with key Divisional partners and the wider university community around recognizing students in distress and shepherding a culture of care for the Brown student community. The Senior Associate Dean and Director actively promotes equity and inclusion through the identification and mitigation of structural barriers for and development of strategic outreach efforts to historically underrepresented student populations. The Senior Associate Dean and Director contributes to priorities and programs that span the Division of Campus Life and collaborates with other Campus Life and University departments to provide programs and services and to develop and implement policies within a student development framework. Collaborates with a wide range of colleagues, including the Chaplains, Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), Department of Public Safety (DPS), Health Services, Residential Life, and Student Accessibility Services (SAS) to respond to student emergencies.
