Skyline College

San Mateo County Community College District (SMCCCD) seeks confidential applications and nominations for the President of Skyline College. This position reports directly to the Chancellor of San Mateo County Community College District. San Mateo County Community College District was established in 1922 and operates three colleges: Cañada College, College of San Mateo, and Skyline College. All three of the colleges are designated Hispanic-Serving Institutions. Skyline College is committed to developing culturally rich and globally informed educational opportunities for an annual population of more than 16,000 students. Skyline College offers a broad selection of degree programs, certificates, and transfer pathways tailored to students with diverse academic and career goals. Students can choose from more than 100 degree and certificate programs to achieve their educational goals in an affordable and supportive environment. Major offerings include Associate in Arts (AA) and Associate in Science (AS) degrees, as well as Associate Degrees for Transfer (AA-T and AS-T) designed for a streamlined transition to California State Universities. 

Situated just south of San Francisco, in San Bruno, California, nestled on a picturesque hillside overlooking the Pacific Ocean, Skyline College blends natural outdoor spaces seamlessly with student life and learning environments. Committed to sustainability, the College integrates green practices across campus and offers specialized courses and programs focused on environmental responsibility. 

Skyline College, a designated Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) and an Asian American Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institution (AANAPISI), is distinguished by its student-centered approach, which provides personalized support services catering to diverse learners. Programs such as the Promise Scholars Program offer full financial support to first-time students, promoting accessibility and reducing financial barriers. The college’s Guided Pathways program ensures a structured experience, helping students identify goals and stay on track to graduation. From extensive tutoring and counseling services to career centers and transfer workshops, Skyline College offers resources that empower students to succeed academically and professionally.

Reporting directly to the Chancellor, the President is the chief executive officer of Skyline College and a District team member on the Chancellor’s cabinet. The President provides visionary leadership for the college and is responsible for the delivery of educational and other services provided by the college and for the supervision of the senior administrative staff and educational programs and services of the college. The President provides high-level direction regarding the overall operation of the college and delegates to the Vice Presidents, Deans, Directors, and other management staff the supervision of other administrative, teaching, and classified staff. 

The Screening Committee and the Chancellor will consider the following requirements in their selection of Skyline College’s next President:

  • Possession of a master’s degree or above from an accredited college or university or the equivalent
  • The equivalent of three years of progressively responsible experience (equivalent to the level of a division dean or higher in an accredited college or university) 
  • Proven ability to be successful in a team-oriented and collaborative environment
  • Proven management and leadership skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to participatory governance
  • Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, ethnic, neurodivergent, and LGBTQIA+ backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff

The position will remain open until filled. The salary for the President position is $283,778 – $353,256 and the intent is to have the new President in office by July 1, 2025.
