Maurice A. Ferrell was named vice chancellor for information technology and chief information officer at North Carolina A&T State University. Dr. Ferrell has been serving as deputy chief operating officer for technology and enterprise data for the University of North Carolina System. Earlier, he was the system’s vice president for technology and chief information officer and also served as associate dean for information management at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, Dr. Ferrell earned his associate’s degree in information systems technology and networking from Danville Community College in Virginia and his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Averett University in Danville, Virginia. He holds an MBA from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, and his Ph.D. in leadership studies from North Carolina A&T State University.
Jamaal Mayo is the senior associate athletics director for external relations at South Carolina State University. He comes to the HBCU with nearly two decades of experience in intercollegiate athletics and higher education. Most recently, Mayo served in executive athletics roles at San José State University in California and North Carolina Central University. Earlier, he was director of intercollegiate athletics at Harris-Stowe State University in St. Louis, Missouri.
Mayo received his bachelor’s degree in sports management from Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, North Carolina.
Afiya Browne is director of the MultiCultural Center at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Browne has worked for the center for nearly a decade, providing strategic leadership and developing programs such as the Holistic Safety Plan. For the past two years, she has served as the center’s interim director.
Browne received her bachelor’s degree in sociology and Black studies from the University of California, Santa Barbara. She is currently a Ph.D. candidate at the University of California, Irvine.
Bryan B. Blair was appointed director of athletics at Syracuse University in New York. Blair comes to Syracuse from the University of Toledo in Ohio, where he has served as vice president and director of athletics for the past four years. Earlier in his career, he was deputy athletic director and chief operating officer at Washington State University. Blair has also worked for Rice University in Houston, Texas, and the University of South Carolina.
Blair is a graduate of Wofford College in Spartanburg, South Carolina, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in history. He holds a juris doctorate from the University of South Carolina School of Law.
Timothy Turner was promoted to vice president for research, sponsored programs, and innovation at Tuskegee University in Alabama. Dr. Turner previously served as the HBCU’s associate vice president for research. Earlier in his career, he was chair of the department of biology at Jackson State University in Mississippi.
Dr. Turner is a graduate of Jackson State University. He earned a Ph.D. in endocrinology from the University of California, Berkeley, and did postdoctoral research at the University of California, San Francisco, and the University of Alabama.
