Two Louisiana HBCUs Launch an Accelerated Pathway to Law School
Grambling State University and the Southern University Law Center have signed a memorandum of understanding that will create a structured pathway to a law degree for undergraduates at Grambling State.
“Through this partnership, Grambling State University and the Southern University Law Center are creating new opportunities for students to accelerate their path to a law degree while preparing for careers of impact and service,” said Grambling State University President Martin Lemelle, Jr. “Together, we are expanding access, strengthening the pipeline of future attorneys, and demonstrating the power of HBCU collaboration to develop the next generation of leaders.”
Under the new 3+3 Accelerated Law Program, eligible Grambling State students can complete their undergraduate preparation while working toward a streamlined transition to the Southern University Law Center. Through coordinated support from both HBCUs, students will be able to fulfill Southern University Law Center’s admissions prerequisites in just three years, culminating in guaranteed admission to the historically Black law school for students who meet all eligibility requirements. Participating students will also benefit from personalized faculty support, guest lectures, pre-law programming, and campus visits.
“This partnership reflects the power of HBCUs working together to create pathways for student success,” said Alvin Washington, chancellor of the Southern University Law Center. “Through the 3+3 Accelerated Law Program, we are able to expand access to legal education and preparing the next generation of advocates and public servants who will make a lasting impact in their communities and beyond.”
