Joshua Steele to Lead Online Learning at Temple University

Joshua Steele has been named the inaugural executive director of Temple Online and vice provost for online and digital learning at Temple University in Philadelphia. He will begin his new role on September 21.

Dr. Steele comes to Temple from the University of Tennessee, where he served as associate vice dean of digital learning. In five years, he grew the university’s online undergraduate offerings from two to 25 programs and more than tripled online student enrollment. Earlier in his career, Dr. Steele served as senior director of Arizona Online at the University of Arizona and associate director of academic strategies for UF Online at the University of Florida.

“Temple’s long-standing commitment to access, and its commitment to redefine access in the twenty-first century, make this an incredible opportunity to have a giant impact on the lives of people in Philadelphia and beyond,” said Dr. Steele. “I am excited to collaborate with units across the campus as we support [Temple’s strategic plan] Forward with Purpose through the development of new programs and pathways that respond to the needs of adult, non-traditional learners.”

Dr. Steele is a three-time graduate of the University of Arizona, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology, a master’s degree in history, and a Ph.D. in geography. He holds a second master’s degree in adult learning and training from the University of Phoenix.
