Two Emory University Faculty Members Earn Important New Assignments

l_haley150Leon L. Haley Jr. was appointed to the National Advisory Council for Healthcare Research and Quality, an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Dr. Haley is an associate professor of emergency medicine at the Emory University School of Medicine. He has been on the faculty there since 1996.

Dr. Haley is a graduate of Brown University and the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He also holds a master’s degree in health services administration from the University of Michigan.

m_ownes150Michael Leo Owens was selected to serve as chair of the governing board of the Urban Affairs Association. The UAA is an international professional association dedicated to fostering a just and equitable urban environment. The association publishes the Journal of Urban Affairs.

Dr. Owens is an associate professor of political science at Emory. He is also the co-director of the Andrew W. Mellon Graduate Teaching Fellowship. He is a graduate of Syracuse University and holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in political science from the State University of New York. He is the author of God and Government in the Ghetto: The Politics of Church-State Collaboration in Black America (University of Chicago Press, 2007).
