Paine College Becomes Smoke-Free, Beefs Up Security

paine-collegeHistorically Black Paine College in Augusta, Georgia, has announced that as of July 1, the campus will become a smoke-free zone. As a result, no tobacco-related products will be permitted on campus.

The college has also decided to require all students, faculty, and staff to wear their college IDs so that they are visible by other members of the community. Visitors to the campus will be required to obtain a pass and to wear the pass in a visible location on their bodies while on campus. The college has also hired additional police officers and installed more security cameras. All entrances to the campus will have manned security posts, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The new security procedures come on the heels of two separate shooting incidents on the Paine campus in May.
