Alabama State University to Offer a Master of Social Work Degree Program

asuThe Alabama Commission on higher education has approved the establishment of a master of social work degree program at historically Black Alabama State University in Montgomery. The new master of social work program will have concentrations in behavioral and mental health, forensic, and gerontology. The program will begin offering classes in the fall of 2015. There will be three degree paths: A traditional two-year, full-time program, an accelerated 12-month program, and a part-time four-year program.

Voncile Gowdy, chair of the department of social work at Alabama State University, stated, “Having a master of social work program at Alabama State will be beneficial to students residing in the central and southern areas who have experienced barriers to existing master of social work programs in other locales in Alabama. It also afford students opportunities to pursue careers in new fields of specialty in social work.”

  1. I have been waiting for this Master Degree of Social Work to come to Alabama State University. Now I am ready. I have assisted my two children in completing high school and some college. It is my time again.
