New Scholarship Program Looks to Help Auburn’s African American Students

slide_logoThe War Eagle Society, a group of Black alumni and faculty at Auburn University in Alabama, has established the War Eagle Society Endowment for PLUS Scholarships. The scholarships, which will be matched dollar for dollar by the provost’s office of the university, will support 25 PLUS scholars with $2,000 scholarships that can be renewed for up to four years. Students who are the first generation in their family to attend college or students from underrepresented minority groups are eligible for the scholarships.

The War Eagle Society was established in 2011 by 10 African American alumni of Auburn University, whose mission is to support the networking activities and fundraising efforts of the university. This organization, housed within the Auburn University Office of Diversity & Multicultural Affairs, aims  to increase philanthropic giving to Auburn University, increase the visibility of African American alumni, and aid in the recruitment, retention and graduation of African American students.
