The College of Human Science at Iowa State University has announced the appointment of three African Americans to assistant professorships.
Brian Burt was appointed an assistant professor of student affairs and higher education in the School of Education. His research focuses on the success of students of color in STEM education. Dr. Burt is a graduate of Indiana University in Bloomington. He holds a master’s degree from the University of Maryland at College Park and a doctorate from the University of Michigan.
Christa Jackson is a new assistant professor in mathematics education. She was an assistant professor of mathematics education at the University of Kentucky. Dr. Jackson is a graduate of Evangel University in Springfield, Missouri. She holds a master’s degree from Missouri State University and a doctorate in curriculum and instruction from the University of Missouri.
Daniel Spikes is a new assistant professor in the School of Education. Previously, he was a high school teacher and school administrator in Lufkin, Texas. Dr. Spikes holds bachelor’s and doctoral degrees from the University of Texas at Austin. He earned a master’s degree at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas.
