Higher Education Grants of Interest to African Americans

money-bag-2Here is this week’s news of grants to historically Black colleges and universities or for programs of particular interest to African Americans in higher education.

The University of Arkansas School of Law received a $200,000 gift from Linda and Jeff Gearhart for initiatives to advance diversity in the legal profession. Jeff Gearhart is an alumnus of the law school and an executive at Walmart. The Gearhart Family Endowed Diversity Support Initiative will fund internships, student travel to conferences and competitions, and expanding diversity education at the law school.

Xavier University, the historically Black educational institution in New Orleans, received a three-year, $750,000 grant from the Edward G. Schlieder Educational Foundation. The funds will be used to make capital improvements to the campus.

In Memoriam: Nathan Howard Cook, 1939-2024

Dr. Cook was a longtime faculty member and administrator at Lincoln University of Missouri. A full professor of biology, he held several leadership roles including vice president for academic affairs.
