Arthur Dunning, president of Albany State University, the historically Black educational institution in Georgia, has announced several changes in the university’s administrative leadership.
Abiodun Ojemakinde was appointed provost and vice president for academic affairs. He has served in the post on an interim basis since August 2014. Previously, Dr. Ojemakinde was dean of the university’s business school. He has been on the administrative staff at the university for 15 years. Dr. Ojemakinde holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in agricultural economics from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge.
Chanta Haywood was named vice president for institutional advancement and executive director of the ASU Foundation. She has served in these posts for the past year on an interim basis. Before joining the staff at Albany State, she worked at North Carolina Central University in Durham and Florida A&M University in Tallahassee. Dr. Haywood is a graduate of Florida A&M University. She holds a Ph.D. in American literature from the University of California, San Diego.
Clifford Porter is the new executive assistant to the president for government and community relations. He is the former vice president for institutional advancement at the university. Before joining the university’s staff, Porter was director of governmental affairs for the Albany Chamber of Commerce. A graduate of Albany State University, Porter earned a law degree from Nova Southeastern University.
Cynthia Hoke was appointed senior adviser and special assistant to the president. For the past 11 years, she has been director of the news service at the University of Georgia. Hoke is a graduate of Georgia State University in Atlanta, where she majored in journalism. She holds a master of public administration degree from Albany State University.
