A Quartet of African Americans in New University Administrative Posts

ackerLorraine Acker is the new director of the Margaret Sloss Women’s Center on the campus of Iowa State University. Acker is a doctoral student in the School of Education at the university. She previously served as assistant dean of students for minority student support services and women’s programs at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

Acker is a graduate of the College of Brockport of the State University of New York System, where she majored in African American studies and political science. She holds a master’s degree in college student personnel from Western Illinois University.

AppletonKevin Appleton was appointed vice president of administrative affairs at the University of Maryland, Eastern Shore in Princess Anne. He will begin his new duties on June 1. Currently, Appleton is vice president for finance and business affairs for the Southern University System in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

A certified public accountant, Appleton is a graduate of Wilberforce University in Ohio.

JOHNm LeeJohn Michael Lee Jr. will be the next assistant vice president for alumni affairs and university relations at Florida A&M University in Tallahassee. Since 2012, he has been serving as vice president in the Office of Access and Success for the Association of Public Land Grant Universities.

Dr. Lee is a graduate of Florida A&M University. He holds a master of public administration degree from Georgia State University and a doctorate in higher education administration from New York University.

Nicole-EvansNicole Edwards Evans was promoted to vice president of enrollment management and institutional research at Jackson State University in Mississippi. She was associate provost for institutional research. She has been on the staff at the university for eight years.

Dr. Evans is a graduate of Jackson State University. She holds a master’s degree in public relations and a doctorate in higher education administration and research from the University of Southern Mississippi.
