The Primas Collection Comes to Auburn University

The June Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art at Auburn University in Alabama is currently showcasing an exhibit of African-American art. Entitled “Promises of Freedom,” the exhibit includes 75 paintings, drawings, prints, and sculpture from the collection of Arthur Primas, a Texan who serves as manager for entertainer Tyler Perry. Primas loans his collection to museums across the country. He has stated that he is “the guardian, rather than the owner” of the art.

The exhibit includes works by more than 30 artists including Jacob Lawrence, John Biggers, and Elizabeth Catlett.
