Three African Americans Names to Dean Positions

ashby_valerieValerie Sheares Ashby was named dean of the Trinity College of Arts and Sciences at Duke University, effective July 1. She has been serving as a professor and chair of the department of chemistry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Professor Ashby joined the faculty at the University of North Carolina in 2003. From 1995 to 2003, she taught at Iowa State University. Dr. Ashby holds a bachelor’s degree and a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Rondall E. Allen_UMES pharmacy school deanRondall E. Allen was appointed dean of the School of Pharmacy and Health Professions at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. He has been serving as an associate professor and associate dean for academic quality in the School of Pharmacy at South University in Savannah, Georgia.

Dr. Allen is a graduate of Florida A&M University in Tallahassee. He holds a doctor of pharmacy degree from Xavier University of Louisiana in New Orleans.

darbeauRon Darbeau was named dean of the College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics and the School of Education at the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith. He has been serving as professor and chair of the department of chemistry and physics at McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

Professor Darbeau holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of the West Indies. He earned a second master’s degree and a Ph.D. in organic chemistry from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.
