Reginald DesRoches will be the next dean of the George R. Brown School of Engineering at Rice University in Houston, Texas. He will take office on July 1.
Currently, Dr. DesRoches is the chair of the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta. He joined the faculty at Georgia Tech in 1998 and was promoted to full professor in 2008.
Professor DesRoches is a native of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, but grew up in Queens, New York. He holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and a Ph.D. in structural engineering from the University of California, Berkeley.
In accepting his appointment as dean at Rice University, Dr. DesRoches said, “I’ve always known that the quality of the faculty at Rice is top-notch. And Rice has some of the brightest students in the world. Some of them ended up coming to graduate school at Georgia Tech, and they were certainly among the best students I’ve had. It’s a really exciting opportunity for me and my family.”
