Shaw University Enters Partnership With Roanoke-Chowan Community College

Historically Black Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina, has entered into a partnership agreement with Roanoke-Chowan Community College in Ahoskie, North Carolina. The college in the northeastern corner of the state, enrolls about 900 students. African Americans make up 57 percent of the student body.

Shaw University has been offering courses in the Ashokie area since 1983. Under the agreement, these Shaw University courses will now be offered on the campus of Roanoke-Chowan Community College. Students who complete an associate’s degree at the community college, will be able to transfer all credits and enter Shaw University as juniors.

Tashni Dubroy, president of Shaw University, said that the “agreement with Roanoke-Chowan Community College allows students in Ahoskie and surrounding areas to benefit from expanded academic offerings and greater access to educational opportunities.” President Dubroy added that the agreement “deepens the strong partnership between our two institutions, and also continues efforts to provide students with affordable and effective options to attain a college degree.”

A native of Jamaica, Dr. Dubroy is a graduate of Shaw University. She holds an MBA from Rutgers University in New Jersey and a Ph.D. in chemistry from North Carolina State University. She became president of Shaw University in 2015.
