Shaw University in North Carolina Establishes New Emergency Financial Aid Program

Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina, is offering a new Emergency Aid Program to help students remain in school so they can complete their degrees. The new aid program will be administered by the Educational Credit Management Corporation, an initiative designed to help minority-serving institutions improve student success and institutional outcomes.

The university will provide the funds for eligible students facing short-term, nonrecurring financial emergencies such as medical or dental expenses, childcare, transportation expenses such as auto repair, or money for food and housing. Students may apply for emergency aid more than once, but the total amount of assistance can not exceed $500.

The program is only available to undergraduate students. They must complete an online application and provide documentation of their unforeseen financial need. The student must explain why if he or she does not receive the emergency aid, it may result in their having to leave school.
