Mark Dean, the John Fisher Distinguished Professor in the department of electrical engineering and computer science at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, was appointed interim dean of the university’s College of Engineering.
Professor Dean, who holds three of the nine patents in the earliest development of the personal computer, joined the faculty at the University of Tennessee in 2013. Earlier, he was chief technology officer for the Middle East and Africa for IBM.
Dr. Dean is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and the National Academy of Inventors. He is a 1979 graduate of the University of Tennessee, where he majored in electrical engineering. He holds a master’s degree from Florida Atlantic University and a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Stanford University in California.
