Five African Americans Who Will Be Taking on New Administrative Posts in Higher Education

Audrey Tanner has been named vice president for enrollment and marketing at Mills College in Oakland, California. Currently, she serves as dean of enrollment services at Massachusetts General Hospital’s Institute of Health Professions.

Dr. Tanner holds a bachelor’s degree in art history from Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts, a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Boston University, a master’s degree in organizational management from the University of Phoenix, and a doctorate in higher education leadership from Nova Southeastern University.

Tyvi Small has been named interim vice chancellor for diversity and engagement at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He currently serves as executive director of talent management, diversity, and community relations at the university’s Haslam College of Business.

Small holds a bachelor’s degree in communication and a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction both from the University of South Florida. He is currently pursuing a doctorate in higher education from the University of Tennessee.

Anthony Heaven has been named associate director of development for the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College at the University of Mississippi. He was the associate director of donor engagement at the University of Florida.

Dr. Heaven holds a bachelor’s degree in religion/theology and a bachelor’s degree in history both from Stillman College in Alabama and a Ph.D. in educational administration from the University of Texas at Austin.

Racheal Brooks has been named co-chair of the University of North Carolina System’s Quality Matters Council. She currently serves as coordinator of the Office of e-Learning at North Carolina Central University in Durham.

Dr. Brooks holds a bachelor’s degree in Spanish from North Carolina Central University, a master’s degree in Spanish literature from Georgia State University, and a Ph.D. in educational evaluation and policy analysis from North Carolina State University.

Donnie Brooks has been named director of athletics at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota. He was director of athletics and recreation at Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi.

Brooks holds a bachelor’s degree in business management and a master’s degree in sports management both from Springfield College in Massachusetts.
