Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs
California State University, Fullerton (CSUF) is seeking a passionate advocate for faculty and student success to serve as the next Provost & Vice President of Academic Affairs. Reporting directly to the University President, the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs is a member of the President’s Cabinet. As both a Hispanic and Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institution (AANAPISI), CSUF seeks a Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs who has experience with addressing the needs of a complex and diverse campus population with a majority comprising first-generation and commuter students. The Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs will provide academic and strategic leadership for all the University’s undergraduate, graduate, research and public service programs. In addition, they will provide leadership to approximately 2,900 employees, eight colleges, Academic Programs, Academic Operations, Assessment and Institutional Effectiveness, Academic Finances and Space Management, Research and Sponsored Projects, Strategic Initiatives, Library, and Extension and International Programs. The incumbent must have a clear understanding of national educational trends and debates and how to influence those for a model comprehensive university. The successful candidate will be an effective and empowering manager, an advocate for diversity, equity, inclusion, and access across campus, an experienced partner in shared, collegial university governance, as well as a collaborator who can continue to build relationships with the community to gain support for and understanding of the institution. The Provost will work closely with the President, college deans and other officers in Academic Affairs to define academic priorities and develop strategies for achieving goals, providing overarching academic leadership and planning, and will develop an academic vision where student success, access, strategic enrollment, and retention are top priorities for traditional and nontraditional learners.
Successful candidates will have an earned doctorate and/or terminal professional degree from an accredited institution of higher education and a strong and established record of academic accomplishment acceptable for tenure as a full professor in a discipline offered at the University. They will have a minimum of five years of academic administrative experience, and at least three years leading an academic unit and a proven track record of successful collaboration in a shared governance environment and working within a collective bargaining environment in a democratic, flexible style to advance institutional goals and priorities.
