The Center for the Study of Human Health (CSHH) at Emory University recognizes that a holistic, multidisciplinary understanding of health requires a diverse community of scholars. We believe that lived experiences profoundly shape academic insight, teaching excellence, and transformative health research. In alignment with Emory’s affirmative action commitments and our Center’s focus on human well-being, we explicitly welcome and encourage applications from individuals with disabilities and protected veterans.
We value the unique perspectives that disabled scholars and veteran academics bring to the study of health equity, human resilience, structural health barriers, and community-based health interventions. CSHH is dedicated to building an inclusive intellectual home where your background is viewed as a distinct asset to our faculty, our curriculum, and our students.
Recognizing Diverse Academic Pathways
We understand that traditional academic metrics do not always capture the full scope of a scholar’s potential. CSHH actively values non-traditional career trajectories and portfolios. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Periods of military service or deployment that may have caused non-linear publication timelines.
- Lived experiences with disability or chronic conditions that shape unique research methodologies or pedagogical approaches.
- Extensive leadership, operational, or field-health execution experience gained in military or community-based settings.
