Position Overview:
The Senior Financial Administrator, reporting to the Director of Finance, plays a vital role within the Open Learning financial team. This role will oversee and report on the financial performance of several business units as well as manage a varied portfolio of sponsored awards.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):
- Support the development of annual budgets and quarterly forecasts for several business units
- Act as a resource for business units on transactional inquires and financial/budgetary questions that require problem-solving and analytic capability
- Working closely with the financial operations team, ensure the support of day-to-day financial operations and internal controls including: review and approval of financial transactions such as requisitions, RFPs, travel vouchers, credit card charges, journal vouchers and billing
- Assist faculty in pre-award activities, including review of solicitation budgets development, supporting forms and other submission requirements, and required institutional information.
- Effectively communicate financial reporting to PIs and project leads through monthly and quarterly reporting and forecast
- Strategize with business unit leads and PIs on resource allocation, effort/salary allocations across projects and coordinates changes to payroll
- Perform complex post award activities including award set up, under-recovery, cost sharing. Process budget revisions and extensions
- Assist PI with financial reporting requirements to various funding organizations, including progress reports
- Interpret award terms and conditions and provides guidance to business unit leads and project leads on financial and sponsored matters including systems, policies and procedures, and compliance
- Ensure financial compliance with University policies and procedures and applicable federal regulations
- Liaise with MIT Research Administration Services (RAS), Sponsored Accounting and other MIT offices
- Perform all other related duties and or special projects as assigned

Qualifications & Skills:
MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree required, degree in finance, accounting, or business administration preferred; a minimum of 5 years of experience, experience with federal contracts and financial administration in an academic research environment and knowledge of federal guidelines; strong analytical, problem solving, decision making, time management, and organizational skills; ability to prioritize; attention to detail; excellent interpersonal skills; discretion with confidential information; strong customer service orientation; work with flexibility, and manage numerous projects with varying degrees of complexity; work as part of a team; identify and recommend solutions to complex problems; and operate effectively in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment. Strong data management and Excel skills, including querying, pivot tables, and extensive formulaic knowledge; experience with SAP, Tableau, Kuali COEUS and MIT’s financial and administrative systems strongly preferred.
Salary range: $80,000 – 100,000, with final salary determined by MIT’s compensation team based on the skills and experience of the candidate.
