Position Summary Information

Summary
The Director, Curriculum Data will assist with oversight and management of the College of Medicine’s assessment and evaluation program, including curriculum data collection, report generation and distribution, curriculum mapping, optimization of software and systems, and advising faculty on assessment design. This position will provide leadership and expertise to ensure high quality evaluation of the MD educational program. This position will report to the Assistant Dean of Curriculum Data and Assessment and directs continuous quality improvement initiatives related to curriculum data processes, data management, and analysis.

Pay Grade:
Starting Salary Range: $58,598 – $68,828, commensurate with experience
Location: Rootstown, OH

Principal Functional Responsibilities

PEOPLE MANAGEMENT:

  • Create a culture of excellence and service. Responsible for leading, building, training, and empowering the team to deliver an excellent program of evaluation, curriculum database, and a competency-based program of assessments. Supervise the work of the curriculum data staff, including establishing goals, monitoring, and evaluating employee performance.
  • Provide feedback and counsel to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and accuracy of data management processes.
  • Organize and coordinate operations in ways that ensures maximum productivity.
  • CURRICULUM DATA MANAGEMENT

  • Responsible for leading and deploying best practices in measurement, assessment and program evaluation, including National Board of Medical Examiners knowledge exams, objective structured clinical examinations, and competency-based assessments.
  • Maintain schedule of annual and triennial program evaluation and work with curriculum committees, course directors, and faculty to coordinate data distribution and review.
  • Serve as primary point of contact in coordinating course and instructor evaluation data within the college, including maintaining accuracy of reporting, aggregating reporting of results, and optimizing course and instructor evaluation design to capture accurate and reliable data.
  • Supervise curriculum data collection via various software platforms, including the institution’s learning management system, clinical scheduling and evaluation system, student information system, etc.
  • Ensure that faculty, staff, and student data needs are met through development and maintenance of a system of evaluation and assessment design, as well as dissemination, collection and reporting of curriculum data.
  • Support accreditation efforts (LCME and HLC) through monitoring relevant data collection, formatting reports, and advising on strategies to achieve accreditation-related goals and requirements.
  • Advise on curriculum design and strategy in meetings with administration, course directors, faculty, and staff.

    CURRICULUM INVENTORY:

  • Supervise planning and organization of the program for inventorying (i.e., mapping) the content of the undergraduate medical education curriculum.
  • Supervise curriculum mapping activities, which may include helping with annual review of keyword and USMLE related tagging, reviewing annual reports and mapping related information prior to presentation to curriculum committees or other stakeholders to ensure accuracy and proper alignment, and working with our Curriculum Mapper to optimize current and future reporting needs.
  • Assist in training administration, faculty, and staff on how to use curriculum mapping data and accessing systems to extract data and reports.
  • Ensure consistency in mapping efforts and compliance with best practices in medical education and accreditation needs.

    CONTINUOUS QUALITY IMPROVEMENT:

  • Initiate and implement process improvements to enhance the use of data and flow of information in a way that best supports the delivery of an exceptional student experience and optimal learning environment.
  • Identify, evaluate, and recommend improvements in curriculum data and its use. Prepare documentation for improved processes. Collaborate with leadership to clarify and resolve issues.
  • Collaborate with university shared service units (Academic Affairs & Student Services, Academic Technology, Information Technology, and the Library) and College units (Faculty Affairs, Curriculum Operations, Student Affairs, Office of Medical Education) to streamline and improve procedures as needed.

    PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:

  • Collaborate with college or institutional departments or external professional colleagues to explore innovations in assessment or curriculum design.
  • Represent the college and institution at professional meetings and related committees.

    Perform other duties as assigned

    Qualifications
    Education/Degrees: Master’s degree in Medical Education or Health Professions education preferred, or equivalent experience in closely related field.

    Experience:

  • Three years of experience in undergraduate, graduate and/or medical student teaching or curricular support
  • Evidence of teaching expertise and understanding of educational pedagogy, i.e., development of outcomes objectives, design of systems for capturing learner feedback and course evaluations, and involvement in student assessment
  • Significant experience organizing data.
  • Significant experience with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Experience with programmatic and/or institutional accreditation
  • Experience working with data visualization software (Tableau, PowerBI, etc.) preferred but not required.
  • Experience with instructional technology
  • Experience leading teams

    Physical Requirements
    Must be able to utilize a phone, computer and screen and other office equipment. While performing the duties of the job, the employee is frequently required to sit; talk; or hear and occasionally stand, walk, reach, stoop, or kneel. Must be able to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
