Rutgers Health, New Jersey Medical School (NJMS) and University Hospital Department of Emergency Medicine seeks a dynamic, collaborative physician executive who is passionate about caring for an urban, inner city patient population to serve as its next Chair. The next Chair will be a dynamic leader with substantial experience in an academic medical center, previously holding senior roles in clinical service and administration. They will be dedicated to recruiting and training a diverse team of emergency medicine physicians that reflects the communities they serve and the faculty who support them. The Chair will be responsible for planning, managing, and implementing programs that promote the professional and scholarly development of the Department’s faculty, while also showcasing entrepreneurial spirit, innovation, and creative thinking in managing the clinical operations.
The ideal candidate will be deeply committed to enhancing patient-centered care and fostering partnerships in the community. They should have experience in a prominent Emergency Medicine Department, ensuring the highest quality and safety for patients through evidence-based best practices. Candidates will need to demonstrate a collaborative leadership style and have extensive experience navigating complex hospital environments. Additional characteristics will include a proven track record of fostering accountability, effectively managing teams, recruiting and developing faculty and staff and possessing the leadership experience necessary to oversee a high-volume clinical service line. The ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders and partners is crucial for the Department’s success. Essential requirements include an M.D., D.O., or equivalent medical degree, board certification in emergency medicine, eligibility for medical licensure in New Jersey, and credentials for an appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor at NJMS.
