A Trio of New Deans at Tuskegee University

The new deans at Tuskegee University are Cecil Duffie, dean of the Chapel; Brooke Burks, dean of the School of Education; and Catherine Armwood, dean of the School of Architecture and Construction Science.

Kerry Watson to Lead Operations at Howard University Hospital

With decades of experience in hospital administration, Dr. Watson most recently served as interim CEO of the University of Florida Health St. Johns. His new appointment marks a return to Howard University Hospital, where he served in various administrative roles for 10 years.

Blair LM Kelley is the First Woman and First Person of Color to Lead the National Humanities Center

“For nearly 50 years, the center has been a beacon; a vital space for intellectual inquiry and connection for academic scholars and educators,” said Dr. Kelley. “At a time when supporting the humanities means more than ever, I am proud to have the opportunity to lead a space committed to fostering transformative scholarship, intellectual community, and broad public engagement.”

Joseph Bouie Jr. Appointed Chancellor of Southern University at New Orleans

Dr. Bouie, a Louisiana state senator since 2020, previously served as chancellor of Southern University at New Orleans, but was dismissed two years into his tenure. He is set to begin his second stint as the HBCU's top administrator on August 1.

Johnny M. Moore Appointed President of Rust College in Mississippi

“It is an honor and privilege to join the Rust College family,” said Dr. Moore. “An HBCU education laid the foundation for my success in life, and I fully embrace this opportunity to contribute to the rich legacy of [Mississippi’s] first and most historic HBCU.”

Larry Johnson Jr. is the New President of Bronx Community College

“It is an honor to be named the seventh president of Bronx Community College,” said Dr. Johnson. “With its distinguished history and enduring commitment to educational equity, BCC serves as a vital institution of social mobility, advancing the intellectual and professional aspirations of students across generations.”

A Trio of New Provosts at HBCUs

The new provosts are Catherine Edmonds at North Carolina A&T State University, A. Clifton Myles at Talladega College in Alabama, and Edward Hill at Voorhees University in South Carolina.

New Dean Positions for Four Black Leaders in Academia

The new deans are Mark McKinney at St. Petersburg College in Florida, Kimberly Smith at Lincoln University of Pennsylvania, Sophia Sotilleo at the University of Maryland-Baltimore County, and Angela Branch-Vital at Prairie View A&M University in Texas.

Manya Whitaker is the Fifteenth President of Colorado College

Jason Geary Is the New Provost of Rutgers University

“I’m honored to lead ongoing efforts to reach new heights of research and student success in New Brunswick,” said Dr. Geary. “I’ve spent my career building connections to maximize impact on campus and in the community, and I’m eager to continue this work as provost in service to all faculty, staff and students.”

The new deans are Mary McGriff at New Jersey City University, Vaughn Crichlow at Roger Williams University in Rhode Island, Kimberly Jones at Howard University in Washington, D.C., RoSusan Bartee at Prairie View A&M University in Texas, and Kwamie Dunbar at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Massachusetts.

O. John Maduko to Lead the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities System

Daryl Minus is the New President of Eastern Shore Community College in Virginia

“ESCC is an exceptional institution, with a dynamic history of creating expanded learning and earning pathways for the citizens of [Virginia's] Accomack and Northampton counties,” said Dr. Minus. “I am honored to join this vibrant community and prioritize strategic efforts that position students for success and enhanced economic mobility.”

The new deans are Raquel Monroe at Howard University, Randy Bradley at Belmont University in Nashville, Alexia Hudson-Ward at Georgetown University, and Jewel Bronaugh at Virginia State University.

Joyce Ester Appointed the Seventh President of Governors State University in Illinois

"I am ecstatic to contribute to GovState's vision and mission in partnership with a strong community of students, staff, faculty, and supportive community members," said Dr. Ester. "Together, we will continue to foster an environment of academic excellence, innovation, and inclusivity."

Cornelius Johnson Named the Eighth President of Danville Community College in Virginia

“I’m excited and humbled to be appointed as the next president of this great college,” said Dr. Johnson. “DCC has a rich history and strong foundation in both workforce and transfer programs and plays a vital role in our city and region.”

New Dean Appointments for Five Black Scholars in Academia

The new deans are Keisha Pollack Porter at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Cora Bragg Thompson at Savannah State University in Georgia, Nancy Kirkpatrick at Smith College in Massachusetts, Lionel Howard at George Washington University in Washington, D.C., and Jessica Brooks at Virginia State University.

Albert Mosley Named the Eighth President of Bethune-Cookman University

"I am deeply grateful for this opportunity, and I look forward to all that God has in store as I partner with our faculty, staff, students, alums, donors, and community partners in shaping a bold and inspiring future for B-CU," said Dr. Mosley. His presidency is set to begin on July 7.
