Roslyn Artis Appointed the Fourteenth President of Benedict College in Columbia, South Carolina
Since 2014, Dr. Roslyn Artis has served as president of Florida Memorial University in Miami Gardens. When she takes office on September 1, she will be the first woman to serve as president of Benedict College in its 147-year history.
In Memoriam: Benjamin Franklin Payton, 1932-2016
Dr. Payton served as president of Tuskegee University in Alabama from 1981 to 2010. Earlier in his career, Dr. Payton was president of Benedict College in Columbia, South Carolina.
David H. Swinton Announces He Will Step Down as President of Benedict College
Dr. Swinton will have served as president of the historically Black educational institution in Columbia, South Carolina, for 23 years, the longest-serving president in the college's history. Upon his retirement in June 2017, he will hold the title of president emeritus of Benedict College.

James E. Clark was named the 12th president of South Carolina State University. Clark, a successful businessman, has been a member of the board of trustees of South Carolina State University for the past year. He has also been chair of the University of South Carolina Research Foundation for the past three years.
In Memoriam: Herman Jones Jr., 1962-2016
Herman Jones Jr., a retired major in the U.S. Army, was the director of bands and professor of woodwinds at Benedict College in Columbia, South Carolina.
