Rex Tolliver at the University of South Carolina, Joy Hill at Virginia Union Unversity, Constance Cannon Frazier at Dillard University in New Orleans, Hampton Cantrell at Caltech, and A. Roxanne Gregg at the University of Nortre Dame.

The California Institute of Technology has established the Shirley M. Malcom Prize for Excellence in Mentoring. The prize honors senior trustee Shirley Malcom's long-standing commitment to make STEM education and access equitable for all.

Taking on new jobs are Cynthia Evers at Howard University, R. Darrell Peterson at Caltech, Ashley Hodges at Notre Dame University of Maryland, Stacie Clayton at Wayne State, Vincent L. Young at Mississippi State, Kristen Smith at Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania, Don Hunt at North Carolina State, and Kelly McMurray at Florida A&M University.

The $100,000 prize is awarded annually to young immigrant scientists living and working in the United States "whose early-career work exemplifies outstanding scientific accomplishment, and presents a significant contribution to their field of study."

Taking on new diversity roles are Alaine Allen at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Lindsey Malcom-Piqueux at the California Institute of Technology, and Joanne Pluff at Hamilton College in Clinton, New York.

Crewell joined the California Institute of Technology as director of financial aid in 2007, a position he maintained until November 2019. Earlier, he served on the staff at the California College of the Arts, the California School of Professional Psychology, and Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

The research team investigated why Black graduate students were nearly three times less likely to have published a paper in an academic journal than White, Asian, and graduate students from other underrepresented groups.

Dr. Alexander joined the staff at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in 1986. She was the project manager for the Galileo mission to Jupiter, the Cassini mission to Saturn, and the lead U.S. scientist on the European Space Agency's Rosetta mission to rendezvous with a comet.

John Dabiri is professor of aeronautics and bioengineering and director of the Biological Propulsion Laboratory at the university. He joined the CalTech faculty in 2005 and in 2010 was named a MacArthur Fellow.
