Lt. James R. Polkinghorne Honored with Historic Marker at Florida A&M University
James R. Polkinghorne enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force right before his senior year at Florida A&M University. He completed pilot training at Tuskegee Army Air Field in Alabama and in 1944 was sent to Italy as a squadron leader. During a combat mission, his airplane went missing and its crew was never found.

In Memoriam: Roosevelt Wilson, 1940-2018
Wilson joined the staff at Florida A&M University in 1969 as the director of sports information. He held various roles during his tenure at the university including director of university publications, director of athletics, and professor in what is now the School of Journalism & Graphic Communication.

Edward Augustus Travis enrolled at the William and Mary Law School in 1951 and graduated three years later with bachelor of civil law degree. No other Black student graduated from the law school for the next 18 years.

In Memoriam: Ralph W. Turner, 1937-2017
Ralph W. Turner was dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Florida A&M from 2008 to 2012. He served on the chemistry department faculty at the university for a half century.
