In Memoriam: Sybil C. Mobley, 1925-2015
Dr. Mobley was named chair of the business department at Florida A&M University in 1970 and in 1974 became the founding dean of the School of Business and Industry. She served in that role until her retirement in 2003.

According to the National Science Foundation, 1,902 people earned Ph.D.s in physics at American universities in 2013. Only 18.8 percent were women and only 19 were Black. Now two Black women have earned Ph.D.s in physics at the same university in the same year.
Darryll K. Jones to Lead the College of Law at Florida A&M University
Jones will serve as interim dean. He has been serving as associate dean for academic affairs. He joined the law school in 2009 as associate dean for research and faculty development. Jones holds two law degrees from the University of Florida.

In Memoriam: Charles Ullman Smith, 1926-2015
C.U. Smith was a civil rights leader and a long-time faculty member at Florida A&M University in Tallahassee. During his nearly half century at Florida A&M, Dr. Smith served as chair of the department of sociology and dean of graduate studies.
LeRoy Pernell Stepping Down as Dean of the College of Law at Florida A&M University
Professor Pernell became dean in 2008. Previously he served for 10 years as dean of the College of Law at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb. He will now return to his full-time faculty position at the FAMU law school.

In Memoriam: Nelson Townsend, 1941-2015
Nelson Townsend was named interim athletics director at Florida A&M University in December. He had served as athletics director at the university from 1986 to 1987 and again from 2005 to 2007.
Center for Law and Social Justice Debuts at Bethune-Cookman University
The director of the new center is Hubert Grimes, who served as a circuit court judge in Florida for 25 years. Grimes also taught at the Florida A&M University School of Law for seven years.

Marcella David has been serving as professor of law and international studies and associate dean in the College of Law at the University of Iowa. She is a graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and the University of Michigan School of Law.
