Doctoral Awards at Historically Black Colleges and Universities
National Science Foundation data shows that historically Black colleges and universities awarded 432 doctorates in 2016. This was 0.8 percent of all doctorates awarded in the United States. Howard University leads the list with 93 doctoral awards.
Stephanie Adams Will Lead the American Society for Engineering Education
Stephanie Adams is dean of the Frank Batten College of Engineering and Technology at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. She will serve one year as president-elect of the American Society for Engineering Education beginning in June and will become president of the organization in June 2019.
Dawn Williams Is the New Dean of the School of Education at Howard University
Dr. Williams joined the faculty at Howard University in 2003 as an assistant professor of educational leadership and policy. Since June 2016, Dr. Williams has served as interim dean of the School of Education.
North Carolina A&T State University Expands STEM Doctoral Offerings
The new Ph.D. program in applied science and technology will have concentrations in atmospheric, environmental and energy science, applied physics, bioscience, applied chemistry, data science and analytics, and information technology and technology management.

Silvanus J. Udoka currently serves as a professor and chair of the department of management at North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro. He holds a joint appointment in the department of industrial and systems engineering.

Dr. McEwen has served as interim provost since August 2017. Earlier, she served as dean of the College of Business and vice provost for strategic planning and institutional effectiveness at North Carolina A&T State University.
Dorothy Browne Named Provost at Bennett College in Greensboro, North Carolina
In 2015, Dr. Browne was named the inaugural dean of the School of Public Health at Jackson State University in Mississippi. Earlier in her career, she was a professor of public health and senior scientist at the Prevention Research Center at Morgan State University in Baltimore.
Thomas Conway Stepping Down as Chancellor of Elizabeth City State University
Dr. Conway has served as chancellor since 2016 and has had a 45-year career with the University of North Carolina System. Earlier, Dr. Conway was vice chancellor and chief of staff at Fayetteville State University in North Carolina.

The New Dean of University College at Fort Valley State University in Georgia

The Business Schools With the Most Faculty From Underrepresented Groups
The survey by the PhD Project found that there are 22 faculty members from underrepresented groups at the business school at North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro. This was the largest number of any business school in the United States.

New Scholarship Program Taking Shape at North Carolina HBCUs
The Cheatham-White Scholarships will be offered to students entering North Carolina Central University and North Carolina A&T State University in the fall of 2018. North Carolina Central University announced that it will match the state appropriation dollar-for-dollar, allowing the university to award 20 scholarships each year.
North Carolina A&T State University Achieves Record in Research Funding
North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro, announced that the university received a record $62.5 million in research contracts and grants during the 2016-17 year. Grant awards have tripled since 2001, when the university took in $18.4 million.

New Scholarship Program for Students at Two HBCUs in North Carolina

The new online MBA program will offer concentrations in human resource management and supply chain management. Students can choose to complete the program in two years, 18 months, or even one year, that would include summer sessions.

In 2015, 431 doctorates were awarded by historically Black colleges and universities. A year ago, the 448 doctorates awarded by HBCUs was the highest total since JBHE began tracking this statistic. This year there was a small 3.8 percent decline in doctorates awarded by HBCUs.
Cornell University Chooses the Next Dean of Its School of Applied Economics and Management
Currently, Lynn Perry Wooten is senior associate dean for academic and student excellence and a clinical professor of strategy, management, and organizations at the University of Michigan. She will become dean on July 1.
