According to the most recent data from the U.S. Department of Education, UNMC enrolls nearly 1,000 undergraduates and more than 3,000 graduate students. Black students represent 4 percent of the undergraduate student body.
An expert in pediatric infectious diseases and community health, Dr. Davies first joined UNMC in 2012 as vice chancellor for academic affairs and dean for graduate studies. In 2017, he was promoted to senior vice chancellor and served in that role until his interim chancellor appointment.
“It has been a privilege to serve as interim chancellor and to work alongside so many dedicated faculty, staff and students across our campuses,” said Dr. Davies. “Our best work is still in front of us, and I am energized by the opportunity to continue moving boldly forward together.”
Before coming to UNMC, Dr. Davies was chair of pediatrics and human development at Michigan State University. Earlier in his career, he was director of the Child Health Research Unit at Alberta Children’s Hospital in Calgary, Canada, and chair of the Child Health Research Institute at the University of Calgary.
Dr. Davies earned his medical degree from the University of Toronto. He holds a master’s degree in epidemiology from the University of Toronto School of Public Health and a master’s degree in health care management from the School of Public Health at Harvard University.
