New Administrative Positions in Higher Education for Three African Americans

Erika  K. Davis was named vice president for enrollment management at Cedar Crest College in Allentown, Pennsylvania. She was an assistant vice president for online and graduate enrollment at Mary Baldwin University in Staunton, Virginia. Earlier in her career, Dr. Davis was director of adult and graduate admission at Neumann Univerity in Aston, Pennsylvania.

Dr. Davis is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, where she majored in communication. She holds a master’s degree in professional writing from Carnegie Mellon Univerity in Pittsburgh and an educational doctorate in community college leadership development from Morgan State Univerity in Baltimore.

Darvis Griffin was appointed director of information technology for the Division of Student Affairs at Texas A&M University. He will also hold the title of assistant chief information officer for the university. Prior to joining Texas A&M, he served as assistant superintendent and chief technology officer for the Waco Independent School District in Texas.

Griffin earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration with an emphasis on management information systems from Texas A&M University. Later he completed a master’s degree in information security and assurance. He also has Department of Defense cybersecurity certificates from Western Governors University in Austin and is completing a second master’s degree in business administration at WGU.

Ronica Smucker has been named associate vice president of development at Rice University in Houston, Texas. She has been serving as associate vice president of development at the University of San Francisco. Earlier in her career, she was senior director of principal gifts at the Stanford University School of Medicine and senior director of individual giving initiatives at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. She will begin her new job on June 1.

Smucker earned a bachelor’s degree in French and foreign affairs at the University of Virginia. She holds a master’s degree in creative writing from Virginia Commonwealth University.
