Description of Department:

The SUNY Oswego School of Business is an AACSB accredited business whose mission is to become the most industry-connect business school in the region with practice aligned curriculum and co-curricular excellence. The school is home to world-renowned scholars and award-winning faculty members who excel in teaching and service. The school offers undergraduate degrees in business administration, human resource management, marketing, operations management, two Master of Business Administration degrees, and several five-year BS/MBA programs. Minors in Entrepreneurship, Business Analytics, Sales and International Business prepare our students for a wide array of careers. Its faculty advise a variety of student-run clubs such as the AMA, Women in Business, Phi Beta Lambda, SHRM, Beta Gama Sigma and The Collegiate Entrepreneurs’ Organization. The school is also home to signature student events Launch It pitch competition and Sales Triathlon. Through its Accounting, Finance and Business Law department, the school offers undergraduate degrees in accounting, finance, and risk management & insurance, five-year BS/MBA accounting programs. In addition to the Oswego campus, classes are offered in Syracuse and online. The school’s Beta Alpha Psi accounting honors society students offer voluntary tax assistance program, and the accounting faculty organize Meet the Accountants Night, Accounting Jeopardy etc. Its Investment Club students manage a financial portfolio with advice from faculty; its fund has done very well over the years.

The School of Business at the State University of New York at Oswego invites applications to fill its inaugural Director, The Center for Excellence and Transformation (CBET)

Compensation: Minimum salary $90,000 (or commensurate with experience) plus full New York State benefits package.

Description of Responsibilities:

The Director of CBET, reporting to the Dean, School of Business, will lead the development and operations of the center, driving partnerships with industry professionals, advancing transformative initiatives, and supporting students, faculty, and community engagement. This is a strategic leadership role that requires an individual with a strong background in business, a commitment to educational excellence, and a vision for creating impactful industry-academic partnerships.

Strategic Leadership and Vision

  • Develop and execute a strategic vision for CBET, aligning with the goals of SUNY Oswego.
  • Establish program objectives, benchmarks, and metrics to ensure CBET’s impact on student learning, faculty development, and community transformation.
  • Oversee and guide CBET’s mission of connecting students and faculty with industry leaders.
  • Supervise student interns/work-study participants
  • Facilitate initial branding and marketing strategy of CBET, including web design, collateral materials and social media presence.

Partnership Development and Engagement

  • Identify and cultivate relationships with industry partners, community organizations, internal partners across the university, and alumni to inform the development of CBET’s programs.
  • Establishing a CBET advisory board to help the mission of CBET
  • Supporting, marketing, organizing CBET’s major annual events (e.g. Science, Technology, and Entrepreneurship Practice (STEP) Conference) in partnership with CBET Faculty fellows
  • Supporting the established Program Advisory Groups (PAGs) across practice areas, collaborating with practitioners, faculty, and students to help faculty design relevant, industry-informed curricula.
  • Actively pursue new funding opportunities through partnerships, grants, and donations, with an emphasis on sustainable funding models.

Program and Curriculum Innovation

  • Drive the integration of emerging business practices into student learning and experiential opportunities, such as “Launch It” and the Sales Triathlon competitions.
  • Work closely with faculty heads of practice areas to develop initiatives that reflect current industry trends, such as the real estate club and local business turnaround projects.
  • Oversee the implementation of industry-informed, co-curricular activities, providing students with hands-on experience and networking opportunities.

Resource and Budget Management

  • Manage CBET’s budget, including grant funding, donations, and endowments, to support the center’s programs and personnel.
  • Collaborate with the center’s digital resource position to ensure accessible and scalable program delivery.
  • Develop and oversee an annual budget and revenue generation plan aligned with each practice area’s annual goals.
  • Collaborate with University Advancement and the Dean’s office to implement the revenue generation plan by building relationships with donors and alumni with a view to raising funds for CBET
  • Support/manage the data collection, information gathering, and reporting process for center grants in partnership with PIs

Community and Economic Development

  • Serve as a catalyst for regional economic development by providing local businesses with access to research, data, and consulting resources.
  • Collaborate with organizations like the Greater Oswego-Fulton Chamber of Commerce to address local business needs through data-driven initiatives.
  • Engage with stakeholders to promote CBET’s role in supporting job creation and economic growth.

Job Requirements:
Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in business administration, or equivalent graduate degree in a related field.
  • At least 7-10 years of leadership experience in academia, consulting, business development, or a similar field.
  • Demonstrated experience in building industry-academic partnerships, managing large projects, and securing funding.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and networking skills.
  • Ability to inspire and lead a diverse team, including faculty, students, and external partners.

  • Familiarity with external training, and executive education.
