Three African Americans With New Appointments in Higher Education

rodneyirvinRodney Irvin was named interim director of employee relations in the Office of Equity and Access at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg. Irvin joined the Virginia Tech staff in 2011 as an employee relations consultant. He is teaching a course this semester on labor management and employee relations in the university’s Pamplin College of Business.

Irwin is a graduate of Florida State University, where he double majored in communications and English.

Cheryl-ThomasCheryl M. Thomas was appointed interim vice president for institutional advancement at Lincoln University in Pennsylvania. She was vice president for institutional advancement at Tuskegee University in Alabama. She has held development positions at Xavier University in New Orleans and Meharry Medical College in Nashville.

Thomas is a graduate of Xavier University of Louisiana and holds certifications in planned giving and major fund development from the College of William and Mary.

trustee_newsLaTonia G. Karr was named to the board of trustees at Stanford University in California. She is vice chair of the board of directors of the Meritus College Fund, a nonprofit organization which offers scholarships, counseling, and mentoring to high-achieving public high school students. She is the former vice president of the real estate finance group of Credit Suisse First Boston.

Karr is a a 1992 graduate of Stanford University, where she majored in economics. She earned an MBA at Harvard Business School.
