Esther Ngumbi, a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Illinois, has been selected to receive the 2018 President’s Medal from the Society for Experimental Biology. She will be honored at the society’s annual meeting in Florence, Italy, in July. Dr. Ngumbi’s research focuses on improving crop and range land productivity.
A native of Kenya, Dr. Ngumbi earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Kenyatta University. She holds a Ph.D. in entomology from Auburn University in Alabama.
Gerald Williams was selected to receive the 2018 Bobby E. Leach Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Award from Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education. Dr. Williams is the interim director of the Division of Diversity and Inclusion at Valdosta State University in Georgia. Earlier, he served as director of career opportunities at the university.
Dr. Wlliams holds a bachelor’s degree in legal studies, a master of public administration degree and a master’s degree in higher education leadership, all from Valdosta State University. He also holds a doctorate in higher education administration from Argosy University.
Ismail H. Abdullahi, an associate professor of library science at North Carolina Central University in Durham, has been selected to receive the John Ames Humphry/OCLC/Forest Press Award from the International Relations Committee of the American Library Association. He is being honored for his contributions to international librarianship.
Dr. Abdullahi is a graduate of the Royal School of Library and Information Science in Copenhagen, Denmark. He holds a master of library science degree from North Carolina Central University and a doctorate from the University of Pittsburgh.
