Nichesius Godwin has been elected president of the LEAP Graduate Student Network at the University of Georgia, where he is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in education. Godwin, a native of Tanzania, is the first African to lead the organization, which supports thousands of graduate students by facilitating academic collaboration, professional development, and advocacy for student concerns.
Outside of his educational pursuits at UGA, Godwin is CEO of the Domicile of Success Organization (DoSo-SafeSpace), a non-governmental organization dedicated to supporting children, youth, women, and individuals with disabilities throughout Tanzania. Godwin earned his bachelor’s degree in education from St. Augustine University of Tanzania and his master of social work degree from the University of Georgia. He holds certificates in nonprofit management and leadership, behavioral change, and business administration. Alongside his Ph.D., Godwin is also completing a graduate certificate in organizational coaching.
Vanessa Macamo has been elected president of the Graduate and Professional Student Council at the University of Arizona. She is the first African woman to lead the organization, which promotes academic, economic, and social support for graduate students at the university.
Macamo is a current ArizonaLEND special education trainee and a Fulbright scholar from Mozambique pursuing a Ph.D. in special education. Before coming to the United States, she served as founder and principal of a preschool in her home country. She was the host of a national TV program that focused on youth skill development, leadership and social change, and connecting local realities in Mozambique to disability rights, education, and emerging tools like artificial intelligence. Macamo holds a master of laws degree in international and comparative disability law policy from the National University of Ireland.
